Centerville Business District

Once the heart of Washington Township and the central shipping point for fruit, grain, and vegetables ready for distribution to San Francisco, Centerville is one of five towns that incorporated in 1956 to form Fremont.

Centerville Lion Dance

Today, Centerville is home to a thriving multicultural business district and community centered around the recently renovated Centerville Depot.  The District's international flavor, active businesses and diverse residential community add to its pedestrian-friendly character.

Special events include the Saturday Farmer's Market, Annual Depot Day Celebration, and Holiday Tree Lighting, all of which help make Centerville a regional destination.

Location and Access

As the name suggests, Centerville is centrally located in Fremont around the bustling intersection of Fremont Boulevard and Thornton Avenue, where high traffic counts exceed 54,000 vehicles per day.  With easy access from Interstate 880 and Highway 84, Centerville is a convenient destination for a welcoming mix of retail, international foods and restaurants.

 Centerville Train

The District is also a well-connected transportation hub.  The Amtrak Capitol Corridor train provides Fremont with links to both Oakland and Sacramento to the north and San Jose to the south, and the Altamont Commuter Express (ACE) train travels from San Joaquin County to Santa Clara.

Redevelopment Project Area

Within the Centerville business district lies the 302-acre Centerville Redevelopment Project Area.

Recent efforts by the Redevelopment Agency to revitalize the District include a number of major improvement projects, such as streetscape and facade improvements, restoration of the Centerville Depot, and completion of the Centerville Bill Ball Plaza.  All are key projects intended to help retain the scale, character, and heritage of Centerville.
