Irvington Business District

The Irvington District is one of the five towns incorporated in 1956 to form Fremont.  The "Five Corners" area of the early Irvington settlement – where Washington and Fremont Boulevards, and Union and Bay Streets converge – remains a hub of activity for Irvington today.

Bay Street Cafe

The Five Corners is home to the Broadway West Theatre Company, upscale cafes, and apparel boutiques.  It is also home to the popular Irvington Farmer's Market held every Sunday throughout the year, and is the   site of a new redevelopment project.

Irvington is benefitting from over $100 million in capital projects (2002-2007) to improve the streets, sidewalks, and landscape.  In addition to this investment, townhouse developments are filling in along the major roads, and an Irvington BART station is planned.

Location and Access

Several major thoroughfares pass through Irvington, making it an ideal center for commerce.  The Five Corners intersection experiences a high traffic count of over 57,000 vehicles per day.  Washington and Fremont Boulevards connect directly to Interstates 680 and 880 within 1-mile and 2- miles respectively.

Redevelopment Project Area

The 473-acre Irvington Redevelopment Project Area is within the Irvington Business District.  The vision for Irvington includes a pedestrian-friendly neighborhood with shopping and dining opportunities along Bay Street in the Five Corners area.

A key component of Irvington's vision is a six -acre redevelopment site at the Five Corners intersection.  The Redevelopment Agency is actively working with a developer on a mixed-use retail project that will build off of the existing specialty shops and historic context of the area.
