Frequently Asked Questions at City Hall

The City's administrative staff receives a wide variety of questions from our citizens as well as visitors.  Below are answers to the most frequently asked questions along with any useful website links and contact information.

Birth, Death, and/or Marriage

 
 
A. The Alameda County Clerk-Recorder's Office offers both services for a fee.  They are located at 1106 Madison Street in Oakland. For further information, please go to the Alameda County Marriage License or Marriage Ceremonies web pages or call 510-272-6362 to speak to someone directly.
 
 
A. The Alameda County Clerk-Recorder's Office can provide these copies to you for a small fee. You can request these copies online, by mail, in person, or by phoning 510-272-6362.  Please visit the Alameda County Vital Records web page for additional information.
 

Legal

 
 
A.  No, the City Attorney cannot provide legal advice to private citizens.  The following organizations may be helpful to citizens seeking legal assistance:

Q.  Where do I file a small claims court action?

A.  The Alameda County Superior Court Small Claims Division handles small claims actions. For further details, please click the link above or contact the Fremont Hall of Justice at 510-818-7503.
 
 
A.  The Risk Management Division in the City Attorney's Office handles claims against the City.  You can reach them directly at 510-284-4050.
 

Municipal Code and Records

 
 
A.  Fremont Municipal Codes are available online as well as at the Fremont Main Library.  For Resolutions and Ordinances, please contact the City Clerk's Office directly 510-284-4060.
 
 
A.  Please send all written requests for public records to the City Clerk's Office.  Their address is P.O. Box 5006, Fremont, CA 94537 or call 510-284-4060 for more information.
 

Payments

 
 
A. Yes, you can make your payment online, by phone, or by mail with the Alameda County Superior Court Traffic Division. There is also information on extensions, continuances, and traffic school.  Click the link above or call the Fremont Hall of Justice at 510-818-7502 for further assistance. Please note, parking tickets are no longer handled through the County Court and must be paid by the method requested on your statement or you can contact the Finance Department's Revenue Division at 510-494-4790.
 
 
A. Alameda County is responsible for property tax and property assessment.  This information is located within two different departments at the Alameda County Offices:
  • The Assessor's Office locates taxable property, identifies ownership of said property, and establishes a value for property taxation.  The Assessor's Office has an online Property Assessment Information form to view this information based on the address or parcel number of the property in question or you can call 510-272-3787.
  • The Treasurer-Tax Collector's Office can assist you with making property tax payments.  The Treasurer's Office has an online Property Tax Information form to view this information based on the address or parcel number of the property in question or you can call 510-272-6800.

Schools, Libraries, and Chamber of Commerce

 
 
A. The Fremont Unified School District can register your child for school or give you information about the school board.  If you would like to contact them by phone, please call 510-657-2350.
 
 
A. The Fremont Main Library is located at 2400 Stevenson Boulevard, one block east of Paseo Padre Parkway.  The phone number is 510-745-1400.
 
 
A. The Fremont Chamber of Commerce can be reached online or by phone 510-795-2244. The Chamber of Commerce is the host for Fremont's Festival of the Arts.
 

Trees

 
 
A. The Maintenance Services Division is responsible for City trees.  You can contact them Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 510-979-5700.  You can also view our Trees in the City  or Tree Hazards web pages.
 

Unemployment

 
 
A. The State of California's Employment Development Department (EDD) can assist you with filing an unemployment claim either online or by phone 1-800-300-5616. The EDD Workforce Services office located at 39155 Liberty Street, Suite B200 provides job search, training, and education assistance.  They can be reached at 510-794-3669.
 

Utilities

A. Channel 27 is Fremont's municipal government cable channel.  You can view the City Council meetings as well as event information and safety tips.
 

Voting

 
 
A. To vote in Fremont or Alameda County, you can contact the Alameda County Registrar of Voters to find out where to register, qualifications, and registration deadlines. To contact them by phone, please call 510-267-8683.  The Fremont City Clerk's office also has registration forms available at the front desk.  The office location is 3300 Capitol Avenue and the phone number is 510-284-4060.
