As Fire Chief, Bruce Martin is responsible for the operational readiness of the Fire Department on a 24-hour basis, 365 days a year. In addition, he is responsible for the readiness and availability of all the supporting functions in the Fire Department. Fremont's Fire Department has 153 full time employees and 10 fire stations.
Chief Martin's career in the public safety field spans more than 27 years. Prior to joining the City of Fremont, he was the Fire Chief for the City of San Rafael, a Battalion Chief in Palo Alto, a Deputy Fire Chief in Sonoma County, a Battalion Chief in Mountain View, and a Fire Captain in Redwood City, where he began his firefighting career in 1982. In addition to his fire department duties, Chief Martin is an Assistant Professor at the College of San Mateo, where he teaches fire command and management. |

Chief Martin holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from the College of Notre Dame and an Associate in Fire Science from Indian Valley College. He also holds a variety of professional certificates from the California Fire Academy, the California Fire Service Training & Education System, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and the National Fire Academy. |
