The City of Fremont Youth and Family Services provides individual and group counseling at a number of school sites. The counseling is provided by intern counselors, who are in field placements as part of their masters or doctoral programs, or are post-masters and are working on their hours towards a professional license. All interns are supervised by YFS staff therapists.
Intern counselors spend 2 days a week at the school and coordinate with school personnel to identify students most in need of counseling. Students may also self refer or be referred by their parents.
Types of issues addressed:
- School behavior or adjustment problems.
- Depression.
- Family problems or conflicts.
- Peer or social difficulties.
- School performance.
- Grief and loss.
- Self-esteem.
- Running away, truancy, beyond parental control.
