A trained professional in the City of Fremont's Human Services Department can help make an assessment of the situation and provide the individual with assistance that can help maintain their independence and safety.
Warning Signs
Some warning signs to look for:
- Forgetfulness and confusion.
- Difficulty staying on topic or even repeating phrases over and over.
- Appearing nervous, fearful, hostile, agitated or fidgety.
- Physical appearance such as an older adult who is having difficulty walking with their cane or walker, or seeing, hearing or speaking.
- Dirty clothes or the presence of bruises and sores.
- Changes in their ability to maintain their home such as a seriously neglected yard, newspapers and mail lying around uncollected, or a house in need of major repairs.
