ELDERSafe Program

ELDERSafe is a community sponsored effort that enlists the help of people who may come into frequent contact with older persons. ELDERSafe provides information about the warning signs to look for that might indicate an elder is having physical, emotional or behavioral problems, which may threaten their safety and well-being.

ELDERSafe Program

If you observe any one or a combination of such warning signs, and are a resident of Fremont, Newark or Union City, please make a call to the Senior Help Line at 510-574-2041. A trained professional in the City of Fremont's Human Services Department can help make an assessment of the situation and provide the individual with assistance that can help maintain their independence and safety.

Warning Signs

Some warning signs to look for:

  • Forgetfulness and confusion.
  • Difficulty staying on topic or even repeating phrases over and over.
  • Appearing nervous, fearful, hostile, agitated or fidgety.
  • Physical appearance such as an older adult who is having difficulty walking with their cane or walker, or seeing, hearing or speaking.
  • Dirty clothes or the presence of bruises and sores.
  • Changes in their ability to maintain their home such as a seriously neglected yard, newspapers and mail lying around uncollected, or a house in need of major repairs.
