Counseling for Seniors

Senior Peer Counseling Program

The City of Fremont Human Services Department's Senior Peer Counseling Program uses well-trained senior volunteers and professionals to provide emotional support to older adults who are facing problems such as death of a spouse, the stress of an illness, the loss of a job or a family conflict--problems which often create a sense of depression, anger or helplessness.

Senior Peer Counseling

If you know someone who might benefit from counseling services or if you would like someone to support you as you face a difficult situation, please call the Senior Peer Counseling Program at 510-574-2064.

Counseling is offered on a one-on-one basis in your home. Residents of Fremont, Newark and Union City who are 55 years or older are eligible for Peer Counseling services. Multilingual services may be available upon request.

Volunteers are Needed

Why?

Today many of our elder friends and neighbors suffer from depression, isolating illnesses, grief due to the loss of a loved one, and simple loneliness.

Who?

Seeking warm and compassionate volunteers to assist seniors in our community.  Looking for people 50 years of age and older to participate in a 54 hour training.  There are no educational requirements – we believe life has been your teacher.

Sounds Good, but Does it Work?

Yes!!!  We hear from the people we serve that they feel they have found someone who truly cares.  The Senior Peer Counselors report they get back more than they give.
