Determining whether a development project will create an environmental impact is an important part of the development approval process.  The City of Fremont Planning Division currently processes Environmental Impact Assessments for most projects within the City. 

Depending on the scope of the project and its anticipated impacts, one or more of the following documents may have to be prepared:

Erosion

  1. An initial study is the preliminary analysis prepared by staff to determine whether a negative declaration or an environmental impact report should be prepared
  2. A negative declaration is a document that states the project will not have, or can, based on available information, be prevented from having, a significant adverse impact on the environment; and
  3. An environmental impact report (EIR) is a detailed report on the estimated significant avoidable and unavoidable environmental impacts of the project.
Decisions about environmental impacts are governed by the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).  For additional information on the environmental assessment process, please review the documents below:

As the environmental impacts of every project will vary, it is important to check with Planning staff about the requirements for your particular project.  If you have additional questions about environmental impacts, you can call 510-494-4440.

Current Environmental Documents Under Review

The following environmental documents are provided for public review Section 15087 of the CEQA guidelines. 

Bayside Marketplace Retail Project (PLN2008-00117)

The public review period for the Notice of Preparation (NOP) starts on Monday, April 28, 2008, and concludes on Tuesday, May 27, 2008. Any interested or concerned party may submit written comments pertaining to the NOP prior to 4:00 p.m. on May 27, 2008. A printed version of the NOP is available for review at the Fremont Branch Main Library of the Alameda County Library located at 2400 Stevenson Boulevard and at the Plans and Permits Counter of Development Services at 39550 Liberty Street during normal business hours.
