Centerville

Once the heart of Washington Township and the central shipping point for fruit, grain, and vegetables ready for distribution to San Francisco, Centerville is 1 of 5 towns that incorporated in 1956 to form Fremont.  After World War II, Centerville developed into a center for automobile sales.  When these businesses relocated to be closer to the freeway, many properties in Centerville were left vacant.  In 1997, the Centerville Redevelopment Plan was adopted to revitalize the district.

Lion Dance at Centerville Depot

Past Redevelopment Agency investments in Centerville include the Centerville Depot, a transit station served by the Altamont Commute Express and Capitol Corridor trains, providing convenient connections to San Jose, Sacramento, and the San Joaquin Valley; the adjoining Bill Ball Plaza; and numerous streetscape and parking improvements in the commercial district.
