History

The 3,000-acre Industrial Redevelopment Project Area is located in the southwestern part of Fremont, from I-880 west to the Bay Lands Planning Area. The Industrial Redevelopment Plan was originally adopted in 1983 to fund the improvement of four I-880 interchanges serving the Project Area and surrounding industrial land.

The interchange improvements were designed to improve freeway access to the area and encourage economic development. The Plan was amended in 1998. The 1998 amendment enhanced the Redevelopment Plan by providing the Redevelopment Agency with the authority to assist with the funding and development of a Business and Learning Center, the widening of Fremont Boulevard, and the construction of a rail/transit center. These improvements will allow the area to realize its full potential as an advantageously located and easily-accessible regional high technology district. The amendment also fiscally merged the Industrial Project Area with Fremont's three other Project Areas.
