Stormwater Quality During Construction

Best Management Practices to Prevent Pollution

Construction of a site involves a variety of operations including demolition, grading and paving that can pollute our local waters if not properly managed.  The City of Fremont requires all projects to adopt Best Management Practices (BMPs) during construction to prevent pollution.

Projects less than 1 acre are required to complete a Statement of Pollution Prevention indicating that the applicant is aware of and will adhere to construction Best Management Practices.

Projects disturbing 1 acre or more are required to file a Notice of Intent (NOI) to obtain a NPDES General Permit for construction and to develop a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan.  For more information visit the State Water Resources Control Board website.

Examples of stormwater BMPs to utilize during construction can be found here:

Every development project is unique and will require different stormwater treatment measures.  For more information on stormwater treatment as it relates to your project or site, please call the Environmental Services Division at 510-494-4570.
