What is Zoning?

The Zoning Ordinance implements the policies of the City of Fremont's General Plan by classifying and regulating the uses of land and structures within the City of Fremont.  Among the specific development matters regulated by the Zoning Ordinance are:
  • Uses of land and buildings.
  • Signs and billboards.
  • The location, height, bulk, number of stories and size of buildings.
  • The uses of open space.
  • Parking requirements.
  • Building setbacks.

Zoning Districts

 
The establishment of zoning districts in the Zoning Ordinance, such as residential and commercial/industrial districts, provide regulations regarding permitted, conditionally permitted, or specifically prohibited land uses and development standards for structures and land, depending on its location within the City.  The designated zoning district for a particular structure or site is shown in the City's Zoning Maps.  For more information on the residential and commercial/industrial districts, click on the icons below:

Office Hours

The Development Services Center is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Fridays.

Appointments can be scheduled during normal office hours to eliminate waiting.  Limited appointments are available on Friday afternoons, if scheduled in advance.  Call 510-494-4443 for more information.
