Utility Users Tax (Measure L) Results

November 8, 2006

On Nov. 7, Fremont voters considered Measure L, a ballot measure that would have established a new 4 percent utility users tax on the use of electricity and natural gas.

Monies raised by the tax would have gone into the City's General Fund, 90 percent of which is spent on police, fire, and maintenance of streets and parks.

Measure L required a 50 percent plus 1 majority to pass, but it received only 42 percent. As such, the City Council and City staff will continue to discuss a variety of alternative approaches to closing the City's ongoing multi-million dollar budget gap.
