What is compost?

Compost is a nutrient rich organic material that looks like soil created from yard waste (e.g. grass clippings, leaves and prunings).

City of Fremont residents have 2 different ways to turn their yard waste into compost:

Orange Flower

  1. Allied Waste Services curbside recycling services (via the green cart) where yard waste is collected from residents and turned into compost.

  2. Composting At Home  - The Alameda County Home Composting Program, (a program of the Alameda County Waste Management Authority), offers many free and low-cost services to county residents.
