Green Building

Green Building is an approach to designing and constructing buildings that:
  • Use materials with recycled-content or are quickly renewable, like bamboo.
  • Reduce waste and recycle construction debris.
  • Create healthier indoor environments for people.
  • Focus on conserving water and energy.
  • Minimize the use of non-renewable resources.

Sustainable Building and Landscaping Policy

Sustainable Building

The City of Fremont has adopted a Sustainable Building and Landscaping policy that requires new City buildings over 10,000 square feet to be LEED trademark certified Silver.  LEED trademark is the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standard, a nationally recognized benchmark.

The City has already implemented many green building practices, including:

  • The installation of a bamboo floor in the Senior Center.
  • The addition of recycled bathroom tiles and energy-efficient HVAC systems in several fire stations. These additions exceed Title 24 requirements.

Sustainable Landscaping

Sustainable landscaping design includes the:

  • Use of drought tolerant plants.
  • Conservation of water, energy, and topsoil.
