Other Commercial Recycling Services

Commercial and industrial customers may contract with any commercial recycling service provider licensed to do business in the City of Fremont. Many businesses already have advanced recycling programs.

The materials must be separated from garbage and the contents of the collection containers must be at least 90% recyclable. Commercial recycling containers containing more than 10% non-recyclable waste must be collected by the City's contracted garbage vendor, Allied Waste

Demolition Debris Recycling

Landfill fees are increasing and resources are becoming more scarce. Now more than ever, it makes economic sense to reuse and recycle leftover materials as you demolish, build or remodel.

The following are some items that can be reused:

  • Lumber
  • Bricks
  • Fixtures
  • Tile
  • Concrete
  • Windows
  • Doors
  • Odd-sized pieces of wallboard, plywood, and paneling

The City of Fremont has a goal of recycling 50% of debris from construction or demolition projects. Applicants must complete the Waste Handling Plan prior to issuance of permits. After the construction or demolition is complete, applicant must submit a Waste Disposal & Diversion Report to Environmental Services.

Many businesses specialize in reuse or recycling and some pay for used materials. Visit the Stopwaste.org website to review the Builders Guide to Reuse & Recycling for a list of vendors.

Call the Alameda County Waste Management Authority's Recycling Hotline at 1-877-STOPWASTE (786-7927) or visit their website to learn how and where to recycle.

Materials Exchange

The California Materials Exchange (CALMAX) is a free service provided by the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB). The program's goal is to help businesses, industry, residents, and others locate markets for usable materials that would otherwise be discarded. According to the CIWMB, "the concept behind CALMAX is simple: materials discarded by one business can be a resource for another business."

To post reusable materials or locate wanted items in the CALMAX guide, please call 1-877-520-9703.
