Rescue

In 1999, the Fremont Fire Department received a "heavy" rating for rescue capabilities from the State Office of Emergency Services.  This rating is given only after a department demonstrates a strong commitment to the rescue discipline.  Prior to receiving the "heavy" rating, the department must meet several performance criteria elements.  They are:
  • Maintain high levels of rescue training for all personnel.
  • Maintain advanced levels of training for rescue team members.
  • Commit to regular, on-going training.
  • Purchase of the complete cache of 'Heavy' equipment required by the State.
  • Commit to mobilize anywhere in the State within 6 hours of activation.

Trench Rescue Drill

The five basic elements of rescue training are:
  1. Confined Space Rescue
  2. Swift water Rescue
  3. Rope Rescue
  4. Rescue System's 1 & 2
  5. Trench Rescue

Currently, the Fremont Fire Department Technical Rescue Team consists of 33 members.  Rescue Team members within the Fremont Fire Department must attain basic and advanced certifications in all five (5) rescue elements.

In addition to emergency response and team training commitments, the Technical Rescue Team delivers training to the rest of the department. The team received a new Heavy Duty Rescue vehicle in the fall of 2002.
