Why do I need this permit?

Any repair, replacement or remodel work done in a residential bathroom or kitchen requires a permit.  Replacing drywall, plumbing or electrical fixtures, appliances (vent fan) and cabinets are some examples.

Replacing a floor covering and its underlayment is a typical example of when a permit is not required. If you are unsure or need additional information regarding permit requirements, please contact the Development Service Center staff  at 510-494-4460.
