Building Permit

Why do I need this permit?

Building permits are the way the City of Fremont regulates construction to ensure that it is safe for occupancy or use. This is done through the review of plans and periodic inspections to verify compliance with the California Building Code and local regulations.

How do I get this permit?

Building permits are issued at the Development Services Center at 39550 Liberty Street, 8 a.m. through 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. through 12 noon on Friday. Some permits can be issued over the counter, while others may require that plans are left for review. Once the plans are approved by the City, the permit can be issued.

Building Permits can only be issued to a Licensed Contractor or a Property Owner.

Visit the Contractors State License Board to verify that the contractor has a license.

How much does it cost?

What do I do once I get this permit?

After the permit is obtained and construction has started, City inspectors will inspect the construction at certain phases for compliance.  The applicant or contractor must schedule these inspections at specific times during construction.

If you are not sure when inspections are required, contact your building inspector, or see Building Inspection Procedures.
