Field Permit for the Homeowner

Homeowners doing their own work in their homes can now request building permits in the field for:

  • Replacement of water heaters, water piping or gas piping.
  • Bathroom or kitchen remodel work not involved with any structural modifications.

This new service will streamline the permitting process for homeowners and save them a trip to City Hall for a building permit.

How do I get this permit?

Homeowner's wishing to obtain a Field Permit should call the City's Building Inspection Department at 510-494-4400, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
