Why do I need this permit?

Interior improvements for commercial, industrial, or other non-residential projects require permits for building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing work.   Other work, including fire safety systems, storage areas, assembly areas, and work involving hazardous materials may require additional permits.

How do I get this permit?

Please submit an application and plans (minimum three sets) for review to the Development Services Center at 39550 Liberty StreetMap to Development Services Center Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. through 4 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. through 12 Noon.  Plans are reviewed for compliance with planning and zoning requirements and building requirements.  The review process is dependent upon the scope of work and may be done "over-the-counter" or may take up to two weeks review time.  All non-residential interior improvement plans must be prepared by a licensed California architect or engineer.

How much does it cost?

Please visit the City's Fees page for a complete listing of costs associated with this permit.

What do I do once I get this permit?

Work may begin once the permit is issued.  The permit, approved plans and inspection record must be at the job site for the inspector to review.  Inspections are required at certain phases of the construction project and the owner and/or contractor are responsible for requesting these inspections.  The work is considered complete once the final inspection is approved.
