Why do I need this permit?

Permits are required for any patio cover attached to the residence or for any patio cover not attached to the residence that is greater than 120 square feet.  In order to issue the permit, the proposed patio cover must meet Planning and Zoning requirements for placement and appearance and must also comply with building code requirements.

How do I get this permit?

The owner or contractor may apply for this permit.  The application must include the Permit Application, the Owner-Builder Verification form, and plans (three sets) including:
  • Site plan
  • Exterior elevation
  • Construction plans
  • Structural calculations if required

An "over-the-counter" review appointment may be arranged for this application submittal by contacting the Development Services Center.  The permit can be issued upon application approval and payment of fees.

How much does it cost?

Permit fees are based on the value and type of the work.  Please see the document below for a complete list of fees.

What do I do once I get this permit?

Once the permit is issued, work may begin.  The permit, approved plans and inspection record must be at the job site for the inspector to review.  Inspections are required at certain phases of the construction project and the owner and/or contractor are responsible for requesting these inspections.  Typically, the first inspection is the foundation excavation inspection and the work is not considered complete until the final inspection is approved.
