Pool and Spa Permit

Pools and spas require building permits to ensure the work is done properly and is approved for the proposed location.

Why do I need this permit?

Swimming pool permits serve several purposes:
  • Adequate barriers to reduce the incidence of children entering unsupervised pools and suffering injury or death due to drowning.
  • Verify that pool design is structurally safe.
  • Verifies electrical wiring for shock and electrocution hazard.
Pool permits may also require a grading or encroachment permit.

How do I get this permit?

The owner or contractor can obtain the necessary permits by filing an application and providing the project's plans and construction documents to Development Services Center staff at 39550 Liberty Street,  8 a.m. through 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. through Noon on Friday.

City staff will review the plans and request revisions or corrections, if necessary. Once the plans are approved by the City, usually within five working days, a permit can be issued and construction can begin.

How much does it cost?

What do I do once I get this permit?

At certain phases of the project, the owner or contractor will call for an inspection of the work. The name and telephone number of the inspector is located on the Inspection Record Card issued with the permit.
