Prior to the issuance of building permits, building construction drawings and supporting documents such as structural design calculations, soil reports, specifications and other required information are reviewed for compliance with applicable codes and design provisions. When the submitted items are determined to comply with codes, building permits can be issued which are good for a specified amount of time.

The following are the Building Codes adopted by the City of Fremont:
  • 2007 California Building Code - Based on 2006 International Building Code
  • 2007 California Mechanical Code - Based on 2006 UMC
  • 2007 California Plumbing Code - Based on 2006 UPC
  • 2007 California Fire Code - Based on 2006 International Fire Code
  • 2007 California Electrical Code - Based on 2005 NEC

The City of Fremont uses these along with any other applicable local and state laws and regulations.  The Building Code books can be found at your local library or at the State of California Building Standards Commission website.

Also see the City of Fremont's local ordinances modifying Building, Fire, Electrical, Plumbing, and Mechanical Codes.

Please contact the Development Service Center at 510-494-4460 for more information.
