What happens after I submit this form?
Within one to two weeks, staff will evaluate the information, make a site visit and make a determination as the next step in the process. If the building is determined not to be a significant historic resource, a demolition permit may be obtained. If staff is unsure as to the potential historic significance, staff will advise you as to the process for obtaining a formal historic evaluation by a qualified consultant.
How much does it cost?
The cost of the initial evaluation is incorporated into the building permit costs for obtaining a demolition permit. If a formal historic evaluation is required, you will be advised to file an Environmental Assessment Application ($750.00 deposit) to cover staff time. In addition, a staff member will obtain estimates from qualified historic consultants. A consultant will be selected from the City's approved list based upon price and the timeframe for completion of the evaluation. The applicant will be requested to pay the City for the historic evaluation work and the City will place the money in a trust account to pay the invoice once the work has been completed satisfactorily.
What do I do once I get this evaluation?
If the evaluation determines the building is not a significant historic resource, you may proceed through the demolition permit process. If the building is determined to be an eligible historic resource, you may incorporate the building into your design plans in a manner consistent with the Secretary of the Interior Design Standards or you may elect to prepare an Environmental Impact Report that considers alternatives and potential mitigation for the loss of the building.
