Q. What permits do I need to build a deck?
A. Decks greater than 30 inches in height will require a building permit. Additional requirements apply for properties in the Hill Area or Hillside Combining (H-I) District. Please consult a Planner at the Development Services Center for more information.
Decks 18 inches through 30 inches in height will not require a building permit. However, setback requirements apply.

Q. How do I determine my property line?
A. Original tract maps for each property in Fremont are available at the Engineering Dept. The tract map will provide accurate information regarding property line measurements. You will need to hire an independent land surveyor to physically determine where the line is on your property based on these measurements.
