Bring two sets of plans and details (drawings) of the proposed sign and the proposed sign location to the Development Services Center. The application form can be filled out while your plans are reviewed. You may pay your fees by cash, check or major credit card.
What Are the Requirements for Plans? Sign plans can be prepared by anyone, although it may be advisable to retain a professional sign contractor, especially for permanent signs.
Sign plans need to show the proposed sign, its dimensions, colors and other details, such as method of attachment to the building or the sign's footing. In addition, plans must include a site plan and show the location where the sign is to be installed.
Plans for freestanding signs need to include a detail of the proposed location, with proposed setbacks from property lines and curbs, while plans for building signs need to show the existing building, its dimensions, and the exact location where the sign is to be installed. Bring photographs of the building and, for multi-tenant buildings, one set of photos of the two storefronts nearest yours on both sides.
