What Permits Do I Need?

The type of permit required for a construction project depends on the scope of the project and trades involved in a project.  

  • building permit is for construction of the structure (such as a fence or wood deck).  
  • trade permit is for the systems within the structure, such as electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and fire sprinkler system.

For example: for a new house, a building permit covers authorization to construct the entire structure from foundation up to finish work. Separate electrical, mechanical, and plumbing permits (trade permit) will be required for construction of the perspective system. Projects such as equipment installation and appliance exchange may involve a trade permit.   

Note:  The corresponding trade permit can be issued under a combination permit at issuance of the building permit.
