The dedication and celebration of the City of Fremont's Central Park Performance Pavilion is scheduled for Saturday, May 12, at noon. The dedication ceremony will be immediately followed by a free community concert by the Ohlone College Community Band in celebration of the opening of the new Performance Pavilion.
The dedication ceremony and community concert celebrates the collaboration between the City of Fremont, Celebrate Fremont (a nonprofit community organization formed to celebrate Fremont's 50th Anniversary), the Candle Lighters, and the Fremont Cultural Arts Council that created the vision for the new Performance Pavilion. The Performance Pavilion was completed in September 2006, just in time to host Celebrate Fremont @ the Park, the two-day culminating event in the yearlong celebration of Fremont's 50th Anniversary. Of special note will be the unveiling of a commemorative plaque honoring the original Candle Lighters Band Pavilion that stood for over 30 years on a spot just west of the new Performance Pavilion. The original Band Pavilion was gifted to the City of Fremont by the Candle Lighters and dedicated June 2, 1974.
The public is invited to join the Fremont City Council, City staff, and representatives from the Candle Lighters and Celebrate Fremont in attending the dedication and concert. Light refreshments will be served following the dedication ceremony.
The Performance Pavilion is located in Central Park near the Fremont Community Center, 40204 Paseo Padre Parkway. For more information on this park dedication event, please contact the City's Parks and Recreation Department at (510) 791-5541.
