Fremont Green Businesses to be Recognized at City Council Meeting

October 4, 2007

At the Oct. 9 City Council meeting, eight Fremont businesses will be recognized for being certified as Bay Area Green Businesses.  The following organizations are being honored by the City Council for demonstrating their commitment to the environment by achieving and maintaining high standards in energy, water and materials conservation: Auto Diagnosis, Del Conte's Landscaping, FedEx Kinko's, Pete's Foreign Auto Repair, REI, The Pro Shop, Toyota Logistics Services, and the City of Fremont Fleet Maintenance Center.

REI is the newest Green Business to be certified in Fremont, achieving their initial certification in August 2006.  The remaining seven companies are being re-certified as Green Businesses, which is required every three years. The Green Business Program promotes businesses that comply with all environmental regulations and implement additional efforts to conserve natural resources, reduce waste and prevent pollution.  Benefits of becoming a certified Green Business include:
  • Lower operating costs due to conservation and waste reduction.
  • Improved public image as leaders and community-friendly businesses.
  • Publicity from promotional activities and technical assistance.
Other Fremont companies with Green Business certification include:  Best Graphic Image, Blue Star Electronics/BSE Recycling, Chinese Buffet, Fremont Marriott, Glenmoor Auto Repair, Kate's Caring Gifts, My Thai Restaurant, and TGIF Body Shop. For information on becoming a Green Business in Alameda County, contact the program's coordinator, Pamela Evans, at (510) 567-6770 or visit www.greenbiz.ca.gov.
