The City of Fremont, along with a consortium of southern Alameda County public agencies, including the cities of Newark, Hayward, Union City, San Leandro and unincorporated Alameda County, will host a green building forum for builders and developers that will provide an update on the status of residential green building policies in the southern portion of Alameda County. The forum will be held Wednesday, May 28, 2008, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Ohlone College Newark Campus, 39399 Cherry Street, Newark.
The forum, called The Green Advantage: South Alameda County Green Builder and Developer Forum, will help builders and developers understand residential green building rating systems, find out what resources are available, learn about current and future green building policy and hear developers' views on the advantages and challenges in building green. Select vendors will be on-hand to showcase their green products, and the forum also includes a tour of the Ohlone College Newark Campus, which was designed to be a LEED Platinum facility. Cost is $30 in advance, $40 at the door.
The forum will include presentations by Build it Green GreenPoint Rated Program Manager Tenaya Asan and LEED for Homes Project Manager Pepper Smith. A municipal agency panel will offer updates on local green building efforts and a green developer's panel will include remarks from Jeff Jacobs of the Building Advisory, Michael Coakley of Standard Pacific Homes and Linda Mandolini of Eden Housing. The forum's keynote speaker will be Union City Mayor Mark Green.
