Illegal Dumping

Hazardous Materials

To report illegal dumping in progress of any hazardous materials (such as gasoline, oil, solvents, antifreeze etc.), please call 9-1-1.

For information on proper disposal of hazardous waste, please check the information under the Environmental Services pages for Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off.

Pollutants

To report pollutants being illegally discharged in or near a storm drain, call Fremont's Environmental Services at 510-494-4580 or fill out our online Report a Hazard form.

Illegal Dumping

Only rain belongs in the storm drain system. Everything else, with few exceptions is considered a pollutant and will have an adverse effect on water quality. Some pollutants are:

  • Automotive fluids
  • Sewage overflows
  • Yard waste
  • Cleaning products
  • Concrete
  • Paint
  • Food waste
  • Pesticides
  • Herbicides
  • Sediment

The placing of these materials into the street gutter or storm drain inlet is a violation of Fremont Municipal Code (Title VIII, Chapter 11) and is subject to a citation. If you view or suspect someone of causing such discharges, please call the City of Fremont Urban Runoff Clean Water Program at 510-494-4570.

Clogged Storm Drains

To report clogged or overflowing storm drains, call 510-979-5700 (During times of extraordinarily heavy rains storm drains may overflow even when not clogged.)

Our hope is that residents will learn and practice proper disposal methods and not use storm drain inlets, channels and creeks as dumpsites.  To report all other illegally dumped materials, call the City Police Department at 510-790-6800 or visit the Report a Hazard page.
