Traffic Signals

Reporting During Business Hours

To report a traffic signal malfunction, please call 510-494-4745 between 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. weekdays (excluding holidays) or send an email to:  trafficengineering@ci.fremont.ca.us 

Reporting After Hours

If it is after hours, during the weekend or on a holiday, please leave a voicemail message with complete details and your contact information and we will respond to you as soon as we're in the office.

If it is an urgent situation during non-business hours (such as an intersection's signal lights are flashing red or the intersection is dark), please call the Fremont Police Department's non-emergency line at 510-790-6800.

Information Needed

When you report a malfunction, please provide the following information:

  1. Intersection street names and the travel direction.
  2. Approximate time and date of malfunction.
  3. Description. Some examples are as follows:
      • Signals flashing.
      • Lamp outage or turned signal head. Please specify the direction of travel controlled by the signal head and whether it is mounted on a mast-arm or pole;
      • All signals are dark indicating a possible power outage;
      • A signal phase is displaying short green when there is a lot of traffic requiring service or a signal phase is displaying a long green when there is no traffic requiring service. Please specify the direction of travel served by the signal phase;
      • Automobile, motorcycle, bicycle or pedestrian is not detected. Please specify the direction of travel.

Signs

 
Reports of missing or damaged street signs should be directed to the City of Fremont Maintenance Division at 510-979-5700 during their normal business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, a message may be left on the answering machine after hours, or an email may be sent to: cofmaint@ci.fremont.ca.us 
 
Missing or destroyed "STOP" signs should be reported immediately. If it is during non-business hours, please immediately report missing or destroyed "STOP" signs to the Fremont Police Department at 510-790-6800.
