The East Bay, Fremont in particular has many wonderful trails for nature lovers and hikers. Visit the East Bay Regional Park District website for more information.

Coyote Hills

Coyote Hills Park is at the of 8000 Patterson Ranch Road/Commerce Drive (west end) in Fremont. From I-880, take Highway 84 west, exit at Paseo Padre Parkway and drive north. Turn left on Patterson Ranch Road (parking fee).

Reg-E Hiking Mission Peak

There are many programs you can get involved in, for more information call 510-795-9385. Picnicking and bicycling is permitted.

Alameda Creek Trail

Part of Coyote Hills Park, Alameda Creek Regional Trail follows the banks of Alameda Creek in southern Alameda County from the mouth of Niles Canyon (in the Niles District of Fremont) westward to San Francisco Bay - a distance of 12 miles.

The south side trail is suggested for bicyclers, hikers, joggers and runners. The north side trail is designed for horseback riding as well.

Little Yosemite Trail

Little Yosemite is scenic stretch of Alameda Creek made up large boulders forming a series of pools and small waterfalls. This section of the creek lined with trees, making it easy to escape sun on a hot day. The name comes from the area's likeness to the rivers in Yosemite. It lies on the southern border of Sunol Regional Wilderness, and is actually the property of San Francisco Water District. Sunol Park has an agreement with the water district allowing hikers access to the area.

Take I-680 to the Calaveras exit and turn right on Calaveras. A short drive and a left onto Geary Road.  Geary will take you straight into the park. The park does charge a per car entry fee (most of the time).

Mission Peak

About five hours are required to reach the summit and return.  From I-680 in Fremont, exit at Mission Boulevard and go north. After about 1/2 mile, turn right (east) on Stanford Avenue and follow it to the staging area (steep climb to the summit).  For a more gradual descent park at parking lots at Ohlone College.

Mission Peak has been described as one of the Bay Area's most underrated summits. The determined hiker who reaches its top will be rewarded with views of Mount Hamilton to the south, the Santa Cruz Mountains to the west, Mt. Tamalpais to the north, and Mt. Diablo and the Sierra Nevada to the northeast.
