What it Takes to Become a Fremont Firefighter
Working for the Fire DepartmentResponsibilities
It takes hard work, determination, and courage to become a Fremont Firefighter / Paramedic. Responsibilities include:
  • Responding to fire, hazardous material, and rescue emergencies
  • Providing emergency medical assistance to victims of accidents, injuries, or illness
  • Participating in fire suppression, prevention, and administration activities
  • Maintaining, testing, and operating tools and equipment
  • Drilling and training, using the latest firefighting and lifesaving techniques
  • Participating in public relations activities

Working for the Fire DepartmentMinimum Qualifications for Entry-level Recruits
  • Current California Paramedic License with current certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support or Basic Trauma Life Support or equivalent
  • Miniumum of six months experience as an Advanced Life Support provider
  • A Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) card issued within the past 12 months
  • A valid Class C California Driver's License
  • Vision of not less than 20/100 in each eye correctable to not less than 20/30 in each eye corrected and without color blindness
  • Ability to pass a job-related psychological evaluation and medical examination, which will include a drug screen
  • Ability to pass an extensive public safety background check
  • Graduation from High School
  • Bilingual skills and college-level coursework in Fire Technology or related field are desirable
