Since 1963 the City of Fremont has facilitated dance programs through the Dance Department.
Our classes provide hands on dance education opportunities to more than 300 students each session. Participating children, youth, adults and seniors are offered a wide variety of performing arts activities such as Hip Hop, Ballet, Tap & Jazz, Ballroom dances and Musical Theatre Dance.
Going into our 50th Golden Year Anniversary and still dancing strong, the dance program has evolved significantly. We seek to build a community identity by offering dance classes that reflect the City’s ethnic diversity.
In addition to the on-going classes in tap, jazz and ballet, traditional international dances are also provided. Some of these include Hula, Filipino Folk, and Bollywood, wherein classes are designed for cultural awareness as well as fundamental techniques.
We even have a Cultural Drumming Class taught by Ms. Adaku Davis. Drumming is easy to learn and fun. It offers a cultural experience with the exciting beat and sounds of Tumba, Doumbek and Djembe drums, cowbells, ago go bells, triangles, shekeres, cabasa, guiros and claves.
