Vanae Basso
Tap Dancing for Seniors

Mrs. Venae started dance at age five in tap, jazz, and acrobatics. She continued classes for nine years and then went on to ballroom in her late teens which has allowed her to teach for Arthur Murray Studios. During that time she and her partner performed as the floor show in several dinner clubs in the Bay Area. Mrs. Venae has owned a Couple Ballroom dance studio in Hayward and has acted as the dance director at her church for twenty years. She has trained in private studios and began teaching for the City of Fremont in 2006. Mrs. Venae's classes are for the over fifty groups. Her classes are invited to perform for various organization including senior centers and care facilities.

Marissa Batoon-Hughes
Filipino Folk Dance for Children, Youth & Adults

Marissa Batoon-Hughes is originally from Manila, Philippines. Her training as a dancer began at the age of six. Through the years she has expanded her dance technique in versatile styles to include Ballet, Modern, Interpretative and Filipino Folk Dance. As she grew in her craft she became a member of professional dance companies to include Saranay & Bayanihan Dance Co's. She has performed on local and international stages. Currently, Marissa is dance director of Expressions Dance Ministry at Harbor Light church in Fremont and honorary member of Kaisahan Dance Co. of San Jose. Marissa is happily married with two children and three grandchildren. Come try the Filipino Folk Dance. All Cultures are welcome. It’s fun and colorful!

Janae Childers
Children's Dance & Adult Beginning & Intermediate Tap

Ms. Janae has been dancing since the age of three and grew up in and around dance studios. Her dance training was done at Mission Dance and Performing Arts as well as Bella Dance Academy growing up. With these studios, she participated in many competitions and performances. She has also been part of a few musical theatre shows with a local youth theatre, Starstruck Theatre. Ms. Janae is now studying dance at San Jose State University. Dance is her passion and she says it is a pleasure to share what she loves with the Fremont Community.

Camille Griffith
Pre-school and Children's classes Ballet, Jazz & Hip Hop

Ms. Camille teaches ages 2-5 and assists with ages 2 to adults. She has experience in jazz, ballet, tap, salsa, hip hop, and musical theatre. She has trained at Duane Dance Academy and is currently taking dance classes in college. Ms. Camille has experience performing in studio recitals and at the Irvington Conservatory Theatre throughout high school. She enjoys teaching new dancers and hopes to keep sharing dance with them.

Jessica Gurule
Youth classes in Ballet, Jazz and Tap


Ms. Jessica has been an instructor and aide for the dance department for about 2 years. She  teaches and aids all ages from 3 year olds to adult. Ms. Jessica has danced and competed in competitions for two different studios over the span of 16 years. In her last competition (Starbound Competition in Lake Tahoe 2010) she and her group were the grand champions.  Ms. Jessica has taken ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop and many other types of dance. She hope to see you in her class!

Angel Patino
Hip Hop Groove for Youth & Boys only
Angel Patino has always had an interest for dance. As a child, he grew up dancing to music videos on TV but it wasn't until after his high school graduation when he began to take dance seriously. In 2007, Mr. Patino joined a Hip Hop dance intensive directed by Funkanometry SF Dance Company. After various intensives, workshops, and classes, he joined Project EM in 2008, where he danced for 3 years while also taking Jazz, Ballet, and Contemporary dance classes at Ohlone College. This allowed him to join iLLusion Dance Company. Mr. Patino currently teaches Hip Hop classes for City of Fremont, Dance Art Center in San Carlos and has been invited to teach at various classes all over the Bay Area. He is now training with Funks SF.

Mikaela Silva
Pre-school and Children's classes in Ballet & Tap  

Ms. Mikaela has been dancing for 13 years. She teaches Dancing Darlings for Tots and the Glee class for youth, and assists beginning and intermediate ballroom, as well as belly dance. She likes to do all types of dancing and has experience in tap, ballet, jazz, hip-hop, belly dance, Portuguese folklore and ballroom. Ms. Mikaela is inspired to dance because she has been dancing since she was little and she thinks it’s a fun and energetic way to stay in shape.

Janice Sung
Hula Dance for Youth

Janice is the City of Fremont's Hula Instructor. She has performed Polynesian dances ranging from Auana hula, maori, and tahitian for nearly 10 years. Ms. Janice teaches Hula recreationally and is inspired to encourage her students to find grace in hula towards healthy bodies and minds. Her classes have fun with learning hula the hawaiian way and end our sessions with a sweet aloha, luau style!

Emerald Templeton
Hip Hop & Street Jazz

Ms. Emerald has been dancing since childhood but teaching with the City of Fremont since 2001. Under the mentorship of COF veteran dance instructors, she has developed her own sense of style in dance. She has studied a variety of styles including Hip Hop, Jazz, Liturgical, West African, Afro-Haitian,Ballet, and Dunham Technique but her specialties are in Hip Hop and Street Jazz. Ms. Emerald enjoys teaching for performance.

Ms. Michelle teaches ballet and tap and she has been dancing for 25 years.
