Why is it important?
Fremont's future vision is to serve as a national model of how an auto‑oriented suburb can evolve into a sustainable, strategically urban, modern city. Our
Climate Action Plan sets a goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2020, a target we hit by the year 2017 through improvements in energy and water efficiency, reductions in waste, adoption of clean vehicle alternatives, and use of renewable energy technologies.
Unfortunately, climate change is happening faster than predicted, making it increasingly important to take action now to help mitigate the effects. The great news is that there are things that everyone can do that can make a difference. The even better news is the actions don’t need to turn our lives upside down, and will also save money, improve our health, and create jobs! The Fremont Green Challenge offers the pathway for residents to get started today.
