Central Park Soccer Fields 9 & 10 were converted to a multi-use synthetic turf sports field, including a cricket pitch. This facility is the first of its kind in the City of Fremont and the greater Bay Area Region and provides year-round recreation opportunities for our diverse and dynamic community. The use of synthetic turf surfacing will lower water consumption and decrease on-going maintenance costs. This project also includes new concrete paving and pathways, new chain link fencing and gates, new trees and shrubs, berms, benches, bike racks and other amenities.
The design also incorporates several "green initiatives" such as Fremont's first porous concrete paving, permeable pavers and stormwater treatment areas. These features are in compliance with the state and county's stormwater pollution prevention regulations in reducing urban runoff into our storm drains.
Construction was completed in early Summer of 2016. To mark this exciting addition to our Fremont community, a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony and first official cricket game was held on Sunday, August 21.
