Holiday Closure 2020

Holiday Closure Scheduled for December 24, 2020 - January 1, 2021 

This closure will not affect police and fire services.



During the COVID-19 pandemic, many City offices are closed to the public or are operating at reduced physical staffing. As in years past, the City of Fremont will be implementing a Holiday Closure for many non-public safety City services from Thursday, December 24, 2020 through Friday, January 1, 2021. This closure will not affect police and fire services.

The Holiday Closure is scheduled for the following dates:
Monday, December 28, 2020
Tuesday, December 29, 2020
Wednesday, December 30, 2020

City holidays are observed on the following dates:
Thursday, December 24, 2020
Friday, December 25, 2020
Thursday, December 31, 2020
Friday, January 1, 2020

Offices that are taking part in the Holiday Closure and continue to remain closed due to the pandemic include:

City Administration


No services will be provided by these departments:
  • City Manager’s Office
  • City Attorney’s Office
  • City Clerk’s Office
  • Economic Development
  • Finance
  • Human Resources
  • Information Technology Services
City Hall, 3300 Capitol Ave., will remain CLOSED to the public. However, City Hall-Building B, the Parks and Recreation Registration Desk will be responding to calls and emails for all recreation programs on certain dates and times. See below under Recreation Services.

Development Services Center


No services will be provided by these departments:
  • Engineering
  • Environmental Services
  • Housing
  • Permit Center
  • Planning
  • Revenue Division
  • Transportation Engineering
The Development Services Center, 39550 Liberty St., will remain CLOSED.

Additional information:
The Development Services Center will be CLOSED beginning Monday, December 14, 2020 (and until further notice) to continue to limit the spread of COVID-19 and protect the health of employees and the community. Learn more.

Fire Department


Fire Stations will be OPEN.
Sandbags and sand will be available at the following fire stations:
Fire Station No. 10, 5001 Deep Creek Road (cross street: Paseo Padre Parkway). Bring your own shovel.
Fire Station No. 5, 55 Hackamore Lane  (cross street: Warm Springs Blvd.) Bring your own shovel.

 No services will be provided by:
  • Fire Administration, 3300 Capitol Ave., Building A, will remain CLOSED.

Human Services Department


The following limited service will be provided:
  • Human Services will provide limited services for Youth & Family Services, Family Resource Center, and Healthy Start Program.
  • Afghan Elderly Association will provide limited services. Clients should contact their Health Promoter for additional info.
  • Youth & Family Services will have on-call crisis counselors to respond to youth referred from the Alameda County Crisis Receiving Home.
  • The Winter Shelter will operate within the Teen Center.
  • Covia/Home Match will provide appointments by video call or phone. Call 510-574-2173 or send an email for more info.
  • The majority of agencies at the Fremont Family Resource Center, 39155 Liberty St., will be responding to calls and emails from the public. 
No services will be provided at:
  • Age Well Center at Lake Elizabeth (formerly called the Senior Center), 40086 Paseo Padre Pkwy., will remain CLOSED.
  • Fremont Family Resource Center (FRC) Administration, Suite A110 will remain CLOSED.

Maintenance Center


Limited services will be provided by these divisions:
  • Hazmat
  • Street & Building Maintenance
  • Parks Maintenance
  • Urban Forestry
The Maintenance Center, 42551 Osgood Rd., will remain CLOSED.

Additional information:
  • Sandbags and sand will be available at the entrance to the Administrative Office at the Maintenance Center, 42551 Osgood Rd. Bring your own shovel.
  • Regularly-scheduled street sweeping will occur on December 28, 29, and 30, 2020; weather permitting. No street sweeping on City-observed holidays. (We will make every effort to provide service on a different day. Contact the City’s Maintenance Division at 510-979-5700 prior to the closure for your street’s make-up street sweeping date.)  
  • A minimum number of City staff will be available in an on-call status to provide emergency maintenance services such as responding to storm-related issues. 
  • Some sidewalk work, graffiti abatement, and/or changing out street signs may occur.

Recreation Services


The following services will be provided:
  • All Community Centers and Recreation Buildings will remain CLOSED. 
  • Parks and Recreation Registration Desk will be responding to calls (510-494-4300) and emails for all recreation programs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Dec. 28, 29, and 30.
  • Parks and Recreation Division will offer camps and other programs at some facilities following our COVID-19 Safety Plan. Visit our RegeRec website for more info.
  • The Fremont Tennis Center will be open for public play, weather permitting. There will be some limited holiday public hours; call 510-790-5510 for more info.

Police Department


Normal services will be provided:
  • Call 911 for emergencies
  • Call 510-790-6800 for non-emergencies (select option 3)
The Police Department lobby, 2000 Stevenson Blvd., will be OPEN to the public from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on December 28, 29, and 30, 2020. The lobby will be CLOSED on December 24, 25, and 31, 2020 and January 1, 2021, for City-observed holidays.

Tri-City Animal Shelter


The Tri City Animal Shelter remains CLOSED to public access. Please call 510-790-6630 for pet redemption.

Licensing can be completed online.

  • Animal Field Services will be limited.

Street Sweeping


  • Regularly-scheduled street sweeping will occur on December 28, 29, and 30, 2020; weather permitting. No street sweeping on City-observed holidays. (We will make every effort to provide service on a different day. Contact the City’s Maintenance Division at 510-979-5700 prior to the closure for your street’s make-up street sweeping date.)  

Garbage, Recycling, and Yardwaste Collection


  • On Friday, December 25 and Friday, January 1, there will be no trash, recycling, and yardwaste collection. Service will be delayed one day for customers serviced on Friday, December 25 and Friday, January 1. Pickup will occur on Saturday. Call 510-657-3500 for more information or visit their website.
