Councilmember Rick Jones grew up in San Jose and moved to Fremont in 1980, shortly after being hired as a Fremont Police Officer. During his twenty-nine years with the Police Department, Councilmember Jones worked in the Patrol Division; the Traffic Unit; and finished his career by serving nine years as the School Resource Officer at Washington High School. He was also a Hostage Negotiator with the SWAT team for more than twenty four years.
Councilmember Jones has been a Traffic School instructor at the Fremont Adult School since 2004, and the Junior Varsity Girls Softball Head Coach at Kennedy High School since 2011. He was appointed to the Planning Commission in 2013.
Councilmember Jones lives in Glenmoor with his wife Dana, (also a retired Fremont Police Officer), son Jared, and daughter Cari. They also have two “adopted” children, Andrew and Christine Lynn who live in Fremont. Councilmember Jones has two older daughters, Jennifer and Allison, who live in El Sobrante, along with grandchildren Nathan and Jordyn.
