March 27, 2020 City of Fremont Update in Response to COVID-19

Covid update text

The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an evolving, unprecedented public health crisis that has necessitated several emergency measures to keep the Fremont community safe and help slow the spread of the disease. In accordance with the Alameda County Health Officer’s Order issued on March 16, 2020 and the City’s emergency proclamation, changes to City of Fremont operations include the cancellation of all City events and non-essential meetings, the closure of most City facilities through April 7, 2020, and the modification or suspension to most non-essential City services.

Today’s update highlights a new phone line and email address established for construction project inquiries; extension of Recreation class cancellations and community center closures; new ‘Open for Business’ signage rolling out; Family Resource Center is closed to drop-in visitors; and updates on Alameda County rapid response resources.

New Phone Line and Email Address Established for Construction Project Inquiries

In Fremont, construction of essential infrastructure is allowed under the Shelter in Place Order issued by the Alameda County Health Officer as long as social distancing requirements are followed. This includes public works projects and all housing construction. If you see other types of construction taking place in Fremont that seem unauthorized, please contact the City’s Code Enforcement at 510-494-4430 or email. Please include the address, a description, and the best way to contact you if additional information is needed.

Recreation Extends Class Cancellations and Community Center Closures through May 1, 2020

The City of Fremont Community Services Department’s Recreation Services has cancelled and closed all programs, community centers, classes, and facility rentals through May 1, 2020. Additionally, online registration is no longer being accepted for spring programs to minimize uncertainty for our community members. Recreation Services continues to accept summer registrations at the present time. No new facility or picnic rentals are being processed for future dates at this time. Additionally, the City intends to cancel the following upcoming events: Fishing in the City on April 18, 2020 and Kids ‘n’ Kites Festival on May 16, 2020.

Small Businesses Open Amid COVID-19 Can Now Signal to Customers that They’re Open for Business

In an effort to highlight small businesses and restaurants that remain open during COVID-19, the City’s Economic Development Department in partnership with the Fremont Chamber of Commerce is distributing eye-catching signs to be placed in windows of open businesses. Small businesses and the retail sector have been undoubtedly and adversely affected due to the pandemic. This effort hopes to draw more customers to the small businesses by alerting them that the business is open, and to encourage the community to support small businesses in Fremont.

To assist businesses during the COVID-19 public health crisis, the Fremont Economic Development team has assembled detailed information, websites, and best practices for our business community to help lessen the pandemic’s negative effects on your business. These resources can be found on the City’s Business Resources webpage.

Family Resource Center Agencies Closed to Drop-In Visitors

Effective Thursday, March 26, 2020, the two Family Resource Center (FRC) buildings, located at 39155 Liberty St., containing 23 human and social service agencies are closed to drop-in visitors. The status of each FRC agency is available online and subject to change. Most agencies are working remotely or are open, so call the number listed online for assistance. View the online list.
