Today’s City of Fremont update highlights the City’s proposed operating budget for the next fiscal year will be presented to the Fremont City Council on May 12; Recreation summer updates; bulky pickup collection resumes; and frozen meals available to order for those 55+.

City of Fremont Budget Hearings to Be Held in June

The City’s proposed operating budget for the next fiscal year, running from July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021, will be presented to the City Council at the regularly scheduled Council meeting on May 12 at 7 p.m. The first public hearing to comment will be held on June 2, and the second hearing and adoption is on June 9. Both public hearings are part of the Council meeting and will begin at 7:00 pm.

Please note that the May 12, 2020 City Council meeting is being conducted utilizing teleconferencing and electronic means consistent with State of California Executive Order N-29-20 dated March 17, 2020, regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. The live stream of the meeting may be viewed on the City of Fremont’s website, which also provides a link to the live stream; or, on Comcast Channel 27. Please note at this time, Channel 27 is only available to Comcast cable subscribers. In accordance with Executive Order N-29-20, the public may only view the meeting on television and/or online and not in the Council Chamber.

For those wishing to make public comments at the May 12, 2020 Council meeting, you may either submit your comments by email prior to the meeting, or by Spoken Public Comment during the meeting. Please view the City Council agenda for complete details, including how to provide public comment at the May 12 Council meeting.

Recreation Summer Update

The City’s Recreation Services Division is moving forward with a revised 2020 Summer Camp program that will start July 6. The Recreation staff in Community Services has been working on hiring summer staff, developing expanded training modules and creating the COVID-19 Summer Safety Plan. Summer camps originally scheduled in June will be cancelled and staff will be reaching out to customers to confirm cancellations and issue refunds. As stated in the April 29, 2020 Alameda County Public Health Order, childcare establishments, summer camps and other educational or recreational institutions or programs providing care or supervision for children of all ages may resume operations, but must follow the most updated guidelines established by the Alameda County Public Health Department. City of Fremont Summer Camps will strictly adhere to the updated guidelines that are in place at the time the camp begins.

The Recreation Services Camp Guide is in the process of being revised and will be completed and available online by June 1.

Other Recreation programs, classes, facility rentals and Aqua Adventure Waterpark operations will remain on hold until there are changes to the current Shelter in Place Order and gathering restrictions. Virtual recreation class options are being developed and those will be available soon.

For more information on Parks and Recreation Services, please visit our webpage. For updates on swim lessons and waterpark operations please visit the Waterpark website for the most up-to-date information.

Bulky Pickup Collection Resumes

For many Fremont families, time at home has resulted in several special clean-up projects. Republic Services customers with single-family accounts may now begin scheduling appointments for collection of bulky items and extra trash. As this service resumes, Republic Services has implemented enhanced safety procedures. Call 510-657-3500 for more information.
