The City of Fremont was successful in securing $1.5 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in 2023 and another $1.5 million from the State of California to fund the public Wi-Fi project.

Citywide Fiber Optic Master Plan

The launch of the City’s new free public Wi-Fi network, marks a major milestone of the Citywide Fiber Optic Master Plan. This Wi-Fi service is powered by the same fiber network outlined in the plan.

Key Plan Features

  • Fiber network expansion: Identify where new fiber lines should be installed to connect City buildings, schools, and community spaces.
  • Smart infrastructure: Support future technologies such as smart traffic signals, public safety cameras, and energy-efficient systems.
  • Public-private partnerships: Collaborate with internet service providers to deliver high-speed and affordable internet to underserved areas.
  • Future-ready design: Build an adaptable network that can meet growing demand for digital services over time.

Looking Ahead

Access Fremont is just the beginning. As the City expands its fiber network, residents and businesses will see faster connections, better online access in public areas, and new opportunities for digital innovation across Fremont.
