Come Meet the Animals
Thursday, Friday, Saturday from 12 to 2 p.m.
The shelter is open for walk-through visits. Stop by during these hours to meet the animals in our care and see who might be your new companion.
How to Adopt
- Choose a pet. Browse our available animals and select one you're interested in.
- Submit an adoption application. Applications are processed on a first come, first served basis.
- Attend virtual counseling. After we receive your application, we'll contact you to schedule a virtual adoption counseling appointment.
- Visit the Shelter
- If the animal is already spayed or neutered, and you're approved, they can go home with you the same day.
- If not, we'll schedule the surgery and set a pickup date post-recovery.
- Staff can let you know at the time of scheduling whether the animal will be ready to go home after your visit.
Adoption Applications
Note Animal ID Number
Available pets have an ID number, for example A123456. When you find a pet you like, write down this number. It helps us match your adoption application to the right animal.
What’s Included with Adoption
Every pet is fully prepared for adoption with:
- Vaccinations
- Flea treatment
- Deworming
- Any urgently needed medical care
By law, all cats and dogs are spayed/neutered and microchipped before going home. We make sure your new pet is healthy, safe, and ready to join your family.
Adoption Requirements
- Adopters must be 18+ with valid ID.
- Adoption fees are due at the time of adoption and are non-refundable.
- Fremont residents are required to license their adopted pet before taking them home. See below for license fees.
Dog Adoption Requirements
- The homeowner or leaseholder must meet the dog before adoption.
- All resident dogs must visit the shelter dog before adoption is finalized.
