Does your child need community service hours?  While we can't have students complete projects in the building, they can complete projects from home to help the animals in our care.

Projects for Kids

Kitten Heating Pads Instructions

1. Get a clean, soft sock in an adult size (longer socks like tube socks work best)
2. Get uncooked rice (make sure it’s not instant rice!)
3. Fill the sock about halfway with uncooked rice.
4. Tie the remainder of the sock with a knot.
5. Optional: decorate your sock with nontoxic markers.
6. Donate to our shelter!

Hay-Stuffed Toilet Paper Rolls

Rabbits love to chew, dig, and toss these simple toys!

• Empty toilet paper or paper towel rolls
• Timothy hay or orchard grass

• Stuff the roll with hay and optional herbs.
• Fold the ends of the roll in slightly to make the rabbit work to get the hay out.

Tied Twig Chews

Rabbits love to chew and toss these bundles—it helps wear down their teeth and keeps them entertained!

• A handful of clean, untreated twigs from rabbit-safe trees
  (Apple, willow, pear, and hazelnut are great options—avoid cherry, oak, or pine)
• Natural sisal string, raffia, or untreated cotton twine
• Scissors

Instructions

1. Gather and clean the twigs – Make sure they are free from pesticides, mold, or sharp edges. Rinse and let dry completely.
2. Bundle 5–7 twigs together, roughly the same length (4–6 inches is ideal).
3. Tie the bundle tightly in the center with your natural string. Leave a few inches of string for easy hanging or tossing.
4. Let them dry completely if freshly cut.
