Do your part to be a good neighbor!

Being a good neighbor fosters a sense of community and enhances the quality of life in Fremont. To remind residents what it means to be a good neighbor and how to comply with City requirements, the City is sharing some helpful tips to follow.

Trash Carts

• Bring in your garbage, recycling, and compost carts from the curb within 24 hours, and place them behind a fence enclosure.

Weeds/Vegetation/Garbage/Debris

• Keep the front of your property free from overgrown weeds/vegetation.
• Keep the front of your property free from garbage or debris and overgrown trees that obstruct the public right-of-way.
• Keep your property, sidewalks, and streets free from debris and hazardous materials that can harm waterways such as cigarette butts, oil, and chemicals.
• If you have trees or plants growing into your neighbor’s yard/property, make sure to trim them regularly.

Fences

• Keep fences in good repair. If you share a fence with your neighbor that needs to be fixed or replaced, work with your neighbor. Neighbors are equally responsible to maintain the boundaries between their properties.

Outdoor Structures

• If you want to install an outdoor structure like a shed or cabana, check with the City’s Planning and Building and Safety staff to determine if the location of the proposed structure is okay and if a building permit is required.

Construction Hours

• If you are undergoing construction activity on your home, follow the City’s ordinance regarding construction hours. If you are hiring paid contractors to do the work, construction should only take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and holidays. Construction on Sundays is not allowed. If you are doing the work yourself or with unpaid volunteers, construction should only take place from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekdays and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on the weekend.

If a concern arises, discuss it with your neighbor in a calm and considerate manner. Bring up how it affects you and/or the neighborhood and work together to find a solution.
