SB1

$42 Million for Road Repair and Enhancements Over the Next 10 Years. Safer, Smoother Streets for Fremont.

What is SB1?

SB1 iconSB1 is a new source of State funding to enhance highway, transit, and local roads statewide. Over the next 10 years, Fremont will receive $42 million in funding from Senate Bill 1 (SB 1) the Road Repair and Accountability Act. This new transportation program approved in 2017 will repair and maintain local roads, reduce congestion, and increase mobility options including bicycle and pedestrian facilities.

Funding Sources

gas pumpFunding for SB1 comes from gas tax and vehicle fees. Statewide, SB 1 is expected to generate more than $5 billion annually for road repairs, to ease traffic congestion, to fill potholes, make seismic safety improvements to bridges and overpasses, and repair local streets and freeways. Funding in SB 1 is split equally between state and local governments for highway and local road repair and maintenance. For cities, SB 1 will double the number of revenues they each receive from the state for their local street maintenance and rehabilitation needs.
