50-50 Sidewalk Repair Program

For Sidewalks Damaged by Trees

The City partners with Fremont property owners to help pay for some of the costs of replacing sidewalks damaged by trees and removing concrete from parking strips.

Get Started

  1. Submit a Sidewalk Repair Request
  2. Select a pre-approved contractor or another contractor that meets the City's requirements.
  3. Apply for Reimbursement

Payment

Property owners are required to pay the full cost upfront. After the work is completed and the application is processed, the City will issue a check.

What it Covers 

  • Replacement of public sidewalks, curbs, and gutters next to City streets that have been damaged by trees
  • Replacement of public sidewalks damaged by trees located on private property
  • Removal of concrete from parking strips
  • Half of the cost of eligible repair and removal work is covered, up to a maximum of $7,500 total per property
  • Sidewalk replacement and concrete removal required by a development permit

Does Not Cover

  • Driveway repair
  • Maintenance or removal of trees on private property
  • Street tree pruning, removal and planting work (See the 50-50 Tree Program)
  • Repair on private streets and sidewalks
  • Landscaping or mulch installation costs

Requirements

  • All concrete removal work must also include the installation of landscaping or mulch in the whole area where hardscape was removed
  • Landscaping or mulch installation must conform to all City standards
  • All hardscape removal work must also include tree planting in accordance with City landscape standards
