Do-It-Yourself Cleanup

Clean up your neighborhood, parks, and local area any time. Trash from inland areas flows downstream to the coast, so cleaning up neighborhood trash prevents marine debris.

  • Gather cleanup supplies from home.
    • Gather grocery bags or buckets for trash.
    • Use kitchen tongs as pickers.
    • Use milk jugs to collect small pieces of trash.
  • Download the Clean Swell app to count your trash and to have your trash counted! Report your cleanup by recording data on the Clean Swell app. Learn why data collection is important.
  • Clean on your own time.

Schoolyard cleanups can be organized to help students become environmental stewards at their own school and in their own neighborhood! Learn more.

City Support

Subject to availability, the City's Environmental Services Division can lend out litter pickers and provide safety information for neighborhood or park cleanups. If a cleanup takes place in a City park, debris pickup can also be requested from the City's Maintenance Operations Division. For more information, contact Environmental Services by phone at 510-494-4570 or by email.
